In 2008 a first EP was released under the band name, which brought them first attention. Like many bands at the time, they stopped self-made recordings on MySpace and were discovered there by the indie label Modular, which they signed. The third member of the band was the drummer Jay Watson. After the success of the Dee Dee Dums as a student band, the name changed to Tame Impala in 2007, named after the African species of antelope. Everyone played more or less in every band. Kevin Parker was part of a circle of friends whose members, with changing line- ups, produced bands such as The Dee Dee Dums, GUM, Mink Mussel Creek, Pond, Space Lime Peacock, Rabbit Island and Tame Impala. The beginnings of Tame Impala go back to the school days of Kevin Parker and Dom Simper, who made music together for the first time at the age of 13.
